Baby Names
April 20, 2008 |
I remember the fun I had, even as a child, helping my mom pick names for my newly born brother and sister. It was quite a challenge choosing just the right rhyming names.
That enjoyment continued, several years later, when I had to pick out my son’s name. Okay, so I admit it… my ex-husband actually picked out the name, Alex. Honestly, I probably would have never thought of it. But even today, almost 18 years later, I can’t imagine a more appropriate name.
If you’re searching for the perfect names for babies, I suggest visiting NewBabyNames.info. The site is very easy to navigate and contains over 7600 names, in its database. Even if you don’t have the slightest idea what you want to name your bundle of joy, before visiting NewBabyNames, chances are you’ll come away with several great baby name ideas.
When my friend, Carl, asked me to check out his site I found it very interesting to read and learn about names, from many different origins. Since technically you don’t have to be of a certain nationality to choose a name representative of it, the sky is the limit.
Nationalities include, but are not limited to: African, American, Armenian, Celtic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hawaiian, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Native American, Persian, Polish, Russian and Slavic.
It was interesting to learn the Kalani means ‘the heavens’, in Hawaiian. The Native American meaning of Alabama is ‘tribal town’. Aubrey, my grandpa’s name means ‘noble and bright’.
The only thing I would suggest for the site is some kind of search function, as it takes time to scroll through the pages.
Does your baby have an unusual name? If so, what is its origin? Is this child named after a family member or is it a name you created yourself? Take the time to share a bit of family history… we’ll be glad you did!
